Our Goal

Wheelchair Rugby Nepal exists to build a pathway for athletes with disabilities to participate, compete, and excel in wheelchair rugby — from their first time picking up a ball to representing Nepal on the international stage.

Our objectives:

1. Grassroots Access
Introduce wheelchair rugby to communities across Nepal, starting in Kathmandu Valley and expanding to other regions, so that athletes with upper and lower limb impairments have a genuine opportunity to try the sport regardless of where they live.

2. Athlete Pathway & Classification
Establish a clear pathway from beginner to competitive level, including access to proper classification processes, so athletes can progress and compete fairly.

3. Training & Coaching Infrastructure
Develop qualified coaches, referees, and volunteers, and secure suitable venues and equipment (sport wheelchairs, courts) to support consistent, safe training.

4. National Team Development
Build Nepal’s first national wheelchair rugby squad, with the long-term goal of representing the country at regional tournaments and, eventually, international competitions such as the Asia-Oceania Championships or World Challenge events.

5. Partnerships & Awareness
Partner with hospitals, spinal injury rehabilitation centers, disability rights organizations, and the [National Sports Council / National Paralympic Committee of Nepal] to identify potential athletes and raise public awareness of the sport and of disability sport more broadly in Nepal.

6. Sustainable Governance
Formalize WRN as a recognized non-profit and, over time, as an officially recognized National Sporting Organisation, ensuring transparent leadership and long-term sustainability.

A couple of quick questions so I can tighten this up:

  • Do you already have a rough timeline in mind (e.g., “grassroots program by 2027, first national team by 2029”)? That would make the goals feel more concrete.
  • Is there a specific first milestone you’re chasing — e.g., getting your first group of athletes trained, hosting a demo event, or securing your first sports wheelchairs? I can lead with that instead of the general list.
